Nature Care College and the Wayside Chapel Collaboration
13 November 2015
The healing space of the community is one that we can all contribute to and be inspired by, and Nature Care, with the help of the Wayside Chapel, is enthusiastically practising this mantra.
The Wayside Chapel in Kings Cross has provided unconditional love, care and support for people on and around the streets of Kings Cross since 1964. The Chapel helps those marginalised by homelessness, mental health issues and substance abuse by providing a community space where the barriers of judgement are broken down, and people from all walks of life can just "be".
In November 2015 a very special initiative sponsored by Nature Care came into fruition, when nutrition student Ann Taylor was selected to host a series of workshops for the Wayside community. The workshops are focussing on good health and simple ways to incorporate nourishing and wholesome foods into people's everyday lives.
For a 6 week run leading up to Christmas, Ann will be taking over the Day To Day Living Services kitchen at the Chapel on Friday mornings, using the facilities to introduce workshop attendees to the benefits of juicing. The sessions will focus on different aspects of health, from feeling more energised, to lowering blood pressure naturally, and improving immune function. Participants will learn to make a host of recipes including a delicious watermelon slushy and healthy banana ice cream, helped also by the college's donation of a new Vitamix for the facility.
Nature Care would like to take this opportunity to thank Ann for her enthusiastic participation in the project, and the Wayside Chapel for this wonderful opportunity to help our community at the grass roots level.
