Body Chemistry A is an introduction to organic chemistry which is essential to help you under the human condition at a cellular level. You’ll explore the structure of chemical substances and interactions of these substances as they relate to biochemical processes within the human body.
By the conclusion of this fascinating organic chemistry unit, you’ll able to:
- Explain the basic principles of organic chemistry and identify a range of compounds and their involvement in biomedical reactions
- Explain the processes of chemical reactions in the body
- Define hormones, vitamins and enzymes and describe their function
- Understand properties of acids and bases
- Describe the fundamental chemical and biochemical reactions in metabolism
- Understand the process of cellular respiration and ATP production in the body
Body Chemistry A has a pre-requisite of Anatomy & Physiology Body Structure and a co-requisite of Anatomy & Physiology Body Systems.
This subject is offered annually in Term 2 each year from June to August.

Thank you to the great teaching from Penny. A brain twister of a subject made interesting and relevant to natural therapists by the extra information and videos and input from Penny. And funny and appropriately irrelevant! I enjoyed Penny's enthusiasm and knowledge of all things biochemistry. Great teaching style. - Simonne
