Advanced Certificate in Holistic Spa & Beauty Therapies

The Advanced Certificate in Holistic Spa & Beauty Therapies qualification provides current therapists with the skills to join the dynamic and growing spa industry.

This dynamic qualification includes studies in the foundations of natural health and mind body medicine, an overview of the major modalities within natural medicine, training in the basic concepts of established nutritional principles and guidelines to develop whole food diet plans and studies in the healing potential of foods and beverages.

Studies also include an in-depth study of Aromatherapy, including over 25 essential oils, their therapeutic properties, skin analysis as relevant to Aromatherapy and the application of essential oils as relevant to the spa therapy setting including facial massage, massage, foot and body treatments and other applications.

UNITS OF STUDY

Advanced Aromatherapy

Description: An expansion of Aromatherapy Essentials, this unit of study considers the more exotic essential oils, advanced blending techniques, skin type analysis and the many rewarding applications of aromatherapy.

Self Directed Learning:Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.

Assessment (Indicative Only): This unit of study is assessed via written assessment, theory exam and participation.

Pre-requisites: Aromatherapy Essentials

Co-requisites: Nil

 


Aromatherapy Essentials

Description: In this unit you will undertake an in-depth study of over 25 essential oils, including their history, chemical constituents, actions and therapeutic use. You will also learn blending techniques with carrier oils and extraction methods.

Self Directed Learning: Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.

Assessment (indicative only): This unit of study is assessed via discussion/participation and end of term theory exam

Food Fundamentals

Description: Food Fundamentals explores the healing potential of foods, beverages and dietary patterns using the best knowledge from both traditional and scientific sources. In this unit of study you will learn how to recommend wholesome foods and beverages based on seasonally available ingredients that delight the senses whilst providing specific phytochemicals and nutrients. You will also learn how to communicate knowledge of nutritional medicine philosophy, principles and practices

Self Directed Learning: Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.

Assessment (indicative only): This unit of study is assessed via assessment tasks and quizzes.

Introduction to Natural Medicine

Description: This inspiring and foundational subject will provide you with an understanding of the history, philosophy and fundamental principles of natural medicine. 

Self Directed Learning: Components of this unit require self-directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.

Assessment (indicative only): This unit of study is assessed via assessment tasks due throughout the term. Refer to Assessment Procedures and Assessment Tasks documents for full details

Introduction to Nutrition

Description: This unit of study will enable you to develop an understanding of the basic concepts of established nutritional principles and practice and to overview current nutritional trends in order to identify basic individual dietary requirements and negotiate basic dietary change as appropriate to the individual.

Self Directed Learning: Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.

Assessment (indicative only):

Assessment Task 1 - 40%
Assessment Task 2 - 20%
On line Quizzes x 2 - 40%
