Herbal Medicine 1A - Materia Medica
Introduction to Natural Medicine
Description: Welcome to the wonderful world of Herbal Medicine! This one-year Unit of Study introduces the philosophy and science of herbalism in its historical perspective. You will explore the materia medica, learn about the therapeutic effects, constituents,
preparation and usage of plants as medicine.
Assessment (indicative only): This unit of study is assessed per term via an assignment, mid term and end of term exam.
Introduction to Nutrition
Description: This inspiring and foundational subject will provide you with an understanding of the history, philosophy and fundamental principles of natural medicine.
Self Directed Learning: Components of this unit require self-directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.
Assessment (indicative only): This unit of study is assessed via a Food Diary; compulsory Naturopathic/Herbal Medicine consultation; Research Assignment and class participation, or participation in on-line forums for distance students.
Description: This unit of study will enable you to develop an understanding of the basic concepts of established nutritional principles and practice and to overview current nutritional trends in order to identify basic individual dietary requirements and negotiate basic dietary change as appropriate to the individual.
Self Directed Learning: Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.
Assessment (indicative only): This unit of study is assessed via two assessment tasks and two on-line quizzes.
