Body Systems an Introduction

Description: This course will enable students to understand the principles and mechanisms involved in physiological function and gain an appreciation of how changes in function can lead to breakdown in health.

By the conclusion of the module students should be able to:

  • Describe the different levels of organisation of the human body
  • Outline the foundation of the Musculoskeletal system
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the general organisation of the Nervous System
  • Describe the importance of hormones in the human body and their regulation by a feedback mechanism
  • Identify the location of endocrine glands in the human body
  • Define the communication process utilised by Neuroendocrine integration
  • Define the Cardiovascular system?s role in meeting cellular needs
  • Demonstrate understanding of the special features of the Lymphatic system
  • Describe the role of blood and its component parts
  • Demonstrate awareness of body fluid compartments
  • Demonstrate understanding of the composition and physiology of the skin and its sensory properties
  • Demonstrate the organisation of the Gastrointestinal system, Urinary system, Respiratory system
  • Outline the overview of the male and female reproductive systems

    Pre-requisites: Anatomy & Physiology Body Structure

    Co-requisites: All Study Period 2 units of study in-line with Study Plan
