Professional Certificate in Clinical Aromatherapy

The Professional Certificate in Clincial Aromatherapy builds on the knowledge learnt in the Certificate in Aromatherapy Consultancy. You will learn the skills to perform therapeutic aromatherapy massage treatments with a focus on holistic health and beauty.

Your aromatherapy training includes the in-depth study of aromatic essential oils, therapeutic and cosmetic properties and applications.

In the final term of study; student's complete aromatherapy clinical training in our established Wellness Centre under the mentorship of an experienced Clinical Aromatherapist.

What are the requirements to practice?

Nature Care Colleges Professional Certificate in Clinical Aromatherapy will enable you to gain access to insurance and start practicing. Our Professional Certificate in Clinical Aromatherapy course is a work ready qualification approved by the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT), where graduates are eligible to register for their insurance to practice.

If your purpose of study is to practice as a Aromatherapist, then a Nature Care College Professional Certificate in Clinical Aromatherapy will enable you to practice and enter the industry as a confident therapist and at an affordable price.

Do I need to outsource my clinical training?

The College campus has an established in-house Wellness Centre where students put their theory into practice during their final terms of study treating members of the public under the supervision of experienced clinical practitioners. In our busy Wellness Centre, students treat patients with preventative health care solutions to improve well-being and patients with existing health conditions. Exposure to such depth of clinical experience and expertise provides students with the confidence to graduate as work ready therapists.

Is there flexibility and can I choose my own study schedule?

Providing work-life/study balance with flexibility is a key feature of all study programs at the College. Lifestyle friendly flexible study options allow you to create the schedule that best suits you - choosing from a wide range of classes offered, combining face to face, distance learning for theory units and intensive options for maximum flexibility.

UNITS OF STUDY

Aromatherapy Essentials

Description: In this unit you will undertake an in-depth study of 18 essential oils, including their history, chemical constituents, actions and therapeutic use. You will also learn blending techniques, methods of application and extraction methods.

Self Directed Learning: Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.

Assessment (indicative only): This unit of study is assessed via an end of term theory exam and class participation, or for distance students participation in on-line forums.

Anatomy & Physiology Body Structure

Description: A fundamental component of all major modalities, this subject will teach you an overview of the fundamental Anatomy of Body Structures. This course will focus on the anatomy of the external body structures including the skin and accessory structures, bones of the skeleton, joints and the skeletal muscles.

Assessment (indicative only): This unit of study is assessed via mid-term and end of term Assessment plus class participation, or for distance students participation in on-line forums.

Swedish Massage

Description: Swedish massage is an introduction to general massage that employs the fundamental manipulations (techniques) applied to the soft tissues of the body. Swedish massage forms the underpinning practical and theoretical knowledge for Remedial Massage 1 & 2. In this unit of study you will learn the basic techniques, ethical behaviour and boundaries, draping, contraindications, history and definition of
massage etc. Participants on finishing this unit of study should be competent in all areas of general massage.

Self Directed Learning: Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.

Assessment: This unit of study is assessed via body logs, practical assessments in class and online quiz.

Pre-requisites: Nil.

Advanced Aromatherapy

Description: An expansion of Aromatherapy Essentials, this unit of study considers the more exotic essential oils, advanced blending techniques, skin type analysis and the many rewarding applications of aromatherapy.

Self Directed Learning:Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.

Assessment (Indicative Only)This unit of study is assessed via a Case Study, Quiz and Class participation, or for distance students participation in on-line forums.

Aromatherapy Massage Techniques

Description: This unit will equip you with the skills and knowledge to prepare for and to provide aromatherapy massage treatments, including partial and full body massage treatments.  The unit is taught in an intensive mode and comprises practical classes involving hand-on learning as well as substantial self-directed online study.  During the intensive sessions on-campus, students will be required to practice techniques on each other in a classroom setting.   

Self Directed Learning: Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.

 

Assessment (indicative only): This unit is assessed via In class participation and in-class observation assessments during intensive sessions (students will be assessed on providing massage treatment)

The Science of Essential Oils

Description: This unit will provide you with a working knowledge of the processes of absorption, metabolism and the therapeutic and toxic effects of essential oils in humans.  In addition to looking at ways in which essential oils can enter and be metabolised in the body, you will investigate the process of essential oil production starting from photosynthesis through to manufacture and application. The chemical constituents and properties of essential oils will also be covered – the how and why they work!  

Self-Directed Learning: Whether students study in on-campus or distance mode, some self-directed learning is required in this unit.  As a guide (and depending on their existing level of knowledge and skills) students can expect to spend around 2-4 hours per week doing independent work.

Assessment: This unit of study is assessed via a written assessment; on-line quizz and participation.

Aromatherapy Skin Care & Products

Description: Learn the rich benefits of essential oils for healthy skin care, specific oils for use for presenting skin conditions, make your own products in class using the appropriate carrier oil and walk away with the skills & knowledge to create and apply skin care products made from the often complex nature of aromatherapy essential oils. Course notes and recipes for client situations will be covered in this fun and engaging course.

Assessment (indicative only): This unit is assessed via an on-line quiz, written assessment and class participation.

Pre-requisites: For students studying the Professional Certificate in Clinical Aromatherapy, the following pre-requisite units of study are applicable:
Aromatherapy Essentials

•Advanced Aromatherapy 

For those wishing to do this course as a general interest course, you may do so as a stand-alone subject and by-pass the assessment.
(Note: Academic credit for this unit of study towards the Professional Certificate is not available when the assessment process is by-passed).

Facials for Massage Therapists

This workshop will teach you how to perform a holistic facial including general skin diagnosis, learning the art of cleansing & exfoliating, applying a mask and massage techniques for the face.


Clinical Aromatherapy

This integrative unit  teaches you how to apply your knowledge of massage and essential oils to a range of clinical situations. Through examination of case studies, group discussions and cross referencing, students will learn to distinguish which essential oils are most suitable in dealing with a variety of ailments.

Self-Directed Learning: Components of this unit require self-directed study where students will perform research and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and group discussion.

Assessment (indicative only): This unit of study is assessed via three assessment tasks - a Case History, Research Assignment and Treatment Plan.
