Massage and Mental Health

Course Outline PDF

One in five Australians experience mental health problems each year. Mental illness is still misunderstood and stigmatised meaning many sufferers hide their symptoms and do not get the care they need. Many of these people are your clients.

This workshop is aimed at bodyworkers and touch therapists to give them the knowledge and skills to work effectively with clients suffering mental health problems, usually in their less servere forms. Participants will gain an understanding of mental health theory, research and current treatment options. The most commonly presented mental health conditions and their implications for bodywork will be discussed in detail.

The workshop will consist of lecture presentations, small group activities and case study analysis. Time will be available to discuss difficult cases and developing professional practice.

Presenter: Alison Carroll Dip RM, Dip Herb Med, Dip Couns/Psych & M Analytical Psych. Alison Carroll is a bodyworker and psychotherapist with 25 years clinical experience.
